Knowledge Fair
From Vision to Reality: BFES Events in Bagerhat

The Gyaan Mela (Knowledge Fair) was already taken over by the villagers and their all-out participation, by crossing the limits of scheduled end-time made the technology fair into a musical panorama. As if such a program took back their tiring life into a thrilling magic world. This was so happened while our bus left Sreefaltola School ground – the fair venue at 5 PM on the 15th of December 2004. The Bus, leaving back an inflamed community gathering, carried the invited visitors, experts from NGOs and Government, Agencies, Poets & Artists returned to the city.

The Bus to Rampal Knowledge Fair left the hotel premise sharp at 8-30 P.M. as scheduled. The Bus carrying the representatives from govt. and civil society organizations (at local and national level) followed some other cars with special guests and dignitaries, crossed the river Rupsha and arrived at Sreefaltola Fair ground after 40 minutes Journey. The Play ground of Sreefaltola High School was transformed into a colorful fair ground with a welcome-gate and the decorated stalls around the whole field. A high-rise colorful stage was also built at one side of the field to host all the scheduled programs. Several class rooms including BFES-Japan Friendship Auditorium at Sreefaltola High School were selected as venues for different competition-events. Those events include Math Test, Chess, Keram, painting and cultural competition. The students of different schools of the area took part in those competitive events.

The Amader Gram office complex, nearby to the Fair ground was a place worth to visit. In fact, it’s the knowledge Center- where the village women could touch computer first and learn the know-how to transform their daily information into knowledge. They are keeping information on their group savings, business, and profit and loss and monitor the improvement of their livelihood status. They termed the center – Magic World! This knowledge center acted as a breeding place in the area stimulated to install some other centers, particularly among the school children of the area. The visitors after having the exposure of Amader Gram office complex - the breeding place - joined in the Inaugural session of the Knowledge Fair at Sreefaltola High School Ground. The Fair was inaugurated by Syed Marghub Murshed, where Karar Mahmudul Hassan, Mahmudul Haque, Upazilla Nirbahi Officer and the Head Master of Sreefaltola High school delivered valuable speech. The Inaugural session was marked by the amazing performance of village singers .The Cultural Team of Rupantar (a reputed NGO in the area) staged musical drama on abolishing species of Medicinal plants and expressed their concern through a local form –Pat Gan (Music on Canvass!).

Visit through the stalls were the most attractive part of the day. The BFES stalls on handicrafts, sweetmeat, and knowledge center, all exhibited the process how technology and information could be handled and utilized so that those could be transformed into assets and sustainable knowledge. There were other stalls from different educational institutions, supported by BFES, came up with their knowledge and skill in computer handling .The educational stalls also served the archival role by keeping systematic information on asset, wealth, history and culture in their area. Other than BFES and institutional stalls, local vendors also installed their stall and sold their products. The Merry-go-round, the traditional symbol of a village fair at the other side of the field attracted the children of the area.

The lunch break made a short pause over the series of events, which again started to roam at 2 P.M. The program schedule included a Review of the Program by the visitors and guests, which was followed by the Prize giving ceremony to the winners of Intellect competition and cultural events. However, this was not a very long program. Soon the stage was occupied by the inspired participants and started a spontaneous cultural program leaving aside all the formalities.

Knowledge Fair at Sreefaltola truly broke the years of silence. It turned silence into knowledge at Sreefaltola. Every one demands the fair should be their local Annual event.
